the history of harrybrooke
Harrybrooke Park was the home of Frank and Elizabeth Harden from 1943-1965. The home was their 48-acre "retreat" from city life. Frank (pictured here standing center left) comes from a strong Irish lineage but also made his own fortune in Irish Linen Handkerchiefs, owning the world's largest handkerchief factory.
This photo is from the first wedding to be held on this property, and it's that of Frank and his lovely wife, Elizabeth (pictured on his arm in the flowered dress) on their wedding day. When Liz passed in 1964, and Frank followed in 1965, they left their beautiful estate to the people of the town, and not to the town itself. By holding your event in Harrybrooke Park, you are supporting a non-profit 501c3 organization committed to recreation and wellness with a dedication of natural preservation as well. |
the gated gardenLiz maintained her garden and we have not let this change much. While the Harden's kept half for vegetables, our gardeners (every one a volunteer) spend countless hours maintaining the pristine appearance you can see on any visit. The Gated Garden a "gem within the gem."

the artFrank was a true world traveler. In his many travels to Europe he grew an extensive library and art collection featured in the museum, which was, after all, their home.
Pictured here is a portrait of the woman who would inspire the beauty of the park, Frank's wife, Elizabeth.

the "home"Frank grew up in Ireland on an estate known as "Harrybrooke." The falls behind the Harden House Museum reminded him of his childhood home and sold him on the property.
This home is now held as a museum and is a snapshot of life in the 1940's. It defines charm and elegance with a touch of opulence. It was here where he HAD to build this dreamhouse for his love, Elizabeth. You can still feel the love within the home. |
